Video of Harajuku and Melrose Celebrating “Sister Streets” Status

Melrose Avenue is known the world over as the center for youth and street fashion in Los Angeles, featuring the latest trends and sources for all of the coolest looks. So, too, is the Harajuku District in Tokyo, the common name given to the geographic area spreading from Harajuku Station to Omotesando. The neighborhood features many small, youth-oriented, independent boutiques, as well as larger international chain stores with high-end luxury merchandisers on Omotesando. Recently, the Melrose BID and the Japanese Consulate declared the two “Sister Streets.” The two areas echo each other in terms of merchandise, audience and “cool” factor—a fact that was made very clear when they came together and celebrated by hosting a dual fashion show at the Melrose Trading Post. The show featured fun street fashion and models from Harijuku, alongside great fashion from local Los Angeles designers. A great time was had by all participants and visitors to the Trading Post.
