Studio Ghibli Pops Up At JapanLA on Melrose: Get Your Exclusive, Limited Edition Items Through July 24

On Saturday, June 24, Melrose Avenue cute culture shop JapanLA launched the ONLY Studio Ghibli pop-up shop in the U.S.

The line was more than three blocks long, with the first person finding his key spot at 4 a.m. The payoff for the wait was incredible, with 800 guests grabbing imported and exclusive products reflecting decades of the animated fantasy delivered by Studio Ghibli. While a few of the products sold out by the end of the day, JapanLA is restocking. Visiting the pop-up this July should absolutely be on your to-do list.

In case you are unfamiliar with the name, Studio Ghibli is the Tokyo-based animation studio co-founded by famed director Hayao Miyazaki. The company’s figurehead, adorable Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro, has become a cultural icon (and is well-represented in the pop-up shop). The studio also created Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Oscar-winner Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and dozens more feature films.
