Cooper9: Sleek Streetwear For Men

Cooper9: Sleek Streetwear For Men

There’s a back to school sale going on this fall at Cooper 9, but the premium urban clothier doesn’t need to rely on great deals to draw in shoppers seeking a hip look in streetwear.

From satin baseball caps in a muted rainbow of shades to long T-shirts and sweaters, the look here is sophisticated yet accessible; unique but nothing that style-savvy guys from Melrose to Memphis would feel out of place wearing. Store owner and designer, RJ, crafts his super soft tees, fleeces, sweats, and hoodies here in LA, and his own fashions are made in the USA. Whether he’s styling for celebrities or shop customers, his goal is to create eye-catching appeal that’s not overwhelming.

While Cooper 9 also has a mall outpost in Sherman Oaks, the Melrose store is its flagship, drawing fashion-forward shoppers from the neighborhood and throughout Los Angeles. The online store allows shipping internationally, and staff members say customers come from “far and wide” to purchase high-quality, comfortable, on-trend men’s clothing.

The shop is small but sleekly appointed, and service staff makes sure their customers feel at home. The comfort of the clothing itself, and the relaxed vibe of the shop are both key for customer appeal. A flat screen TV is suspended from the ceiling in the back of the shop so guys don’t even have to miss a game while shopping.

The look of the clothing here is definitively “cutting edge” according to the store’s sales staff. Check out choices such as a distressed knitted T-shirt with a contrast slit and front pocket. The extended length of the shirt, a feature of many tees in the shop, allows a good fit that not only compliments a variety of body types, but gives freedom of movement, and as staff members point out, won’t ride up. Made of polyester and viscose, the shirt is soft and supple, too.

While this shirt is plain, graphic tee styles are also popular at Cooper 9, sales staff attests. The cube logo T-shirt, also slit-sided, is made of rayon and spandex, and the geometric pattern might just be perfect for techies.

One of the most unique items Cooper 9 carries are the Greenwich biker sweatpants. The pants feature padded trims and can be purchased with a matching Greenwich hoodie. Both are 100% cotton, and are as sleek looking as they are durable. Equally popular are the Biker zipper pocket jeans in a vintage blue denim. These stretchable pants are 98% cotton and 2% elastic, and are one of the few items in the store that are imported.

Top to bottom, Cooper 9 can dress men in the sharpest of styles. Headgear – along with those aforementioned satin hats – includes soft suede daddy hats, dyed cotton daddy hats, snap brim style hats, and a Spearhead daddy hat with embossed logo on the front.

From dip-dyed elongated tees to leather jackets, distressed hoodies, and the subtle glow of a gold filled Cuban chain bracelet, Cooper 9 is the ultimate Melrose Ave. hot spot for men to get their chic on.
