Award-winning writer/performer Barra Grant remounts last summer’s sold out show, Miss America’s Ugly Daughter: Bess Myerson & Me. This is a truly unique true mother-daughter story about Grant’s relationship with her beauty queen mother, Bess. It is hilarious, shocking, and one for your “can’t miss” list. Previews are February 2-4 and performances are February 8 – March 24.

THE GROUNDLINGS

Two big debuts are happening at Groundlings this month. A new main stage show, Groundlings & Groundlings, Attorneys at Law kicks off on February 2. The sketch and improv master mix runs every Friday and Saturday. David Jahn, who holds both alumni status and director credentials at Groundlings, is launching his one-person show one night only on February 12. Fill Your Hole looks at life, love, and loss, bringing light to a dark hole.

MATRIX THEATRE

Black History Month is being celebrated in a very special way at Matrix Theatre with a revival of August Wilson’s Two Trains Running. This installment of Wilson’s “American Century Cycle” is set in 1969 Pittsburgh and examines the turbulent, changing world through the eyes of regulars at Memphis Lee’s restaurant. Two Trains Running runs February 2 – March 3, Thursdays – Saturdays at 8p and Sundays at 2p.

SAL’S COMEDY HOLE

So this is it, folks, the last month of the US Comedy Contest. Since October, the best comedians around have been battling for a spot in the finals, which take place this month. If you haven’t checked out the most hilarious dogfight, Mondays are the day, 8p is the time and Sal’s Comedy Club is the place.

Closing this month is the warm and wonderful show from award-winning playwright Garret Jon Groenveld and director Richard Seyd. The Empty Nesters follows parents on a life-changing trip to the Grand Canyon Sky Walk as they navigate life after all their kids leave home.
