Five Great Ways To Spend The Dog Days Of Summer Drinking On Melrose

August in Los Angeles means it’s going to get hotter before it gets, well, less hot. When the temps hover in the 90s in Hollywood, Angelenos go into survival mode. And by that we mean finding the coldest, most refreshing drinks around and a comfortable place to drink many of them. We have five of the best places to chill out, with drink recommendations, on Melrose Avenue.

FRANKIE’S ON MELROSE

It’s not on the menu, but if you ask weeknight bartender Adam for something to take a hot edge off, he’ll recommend his Garibaldaroni Campari Cooler. A smooth balance of gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, and a float of orange juice, enjoy the herb-tinged fruity delight outside for some people-watching or better yet, at the AC-cooled bar for some good conversation.

MELROSE UMBRELLA CO.

This summer, bartender Scott Eton introduced The Collins to the Melrose Umbrella Co.’s already impressive selection of classic and contemporary cocktails. This hot weather lifesaver blends Grey Goose Pear with lemon, rosemary honey, and Douglas fir. Yes, a little cold season tree to flavor-punch this summer special.

THE DARKROOM

At The Darkroom, you can sit inside and enjoy the current rock photography on display and take some drunky snaps in the photo booth. Or hang out in the patio area with a great view of Melrose Avenue. Either way, get a Summertime Blues in your hand. Vodka and blueberry mint syrup garnished with a mint sprig or lemon. Couple of these and the ring of hell temperature won’t even matter.

SANDBOX

Rum, two ways. Why choose when they look so good together. Besides, it’ll be 100 degrees out at 10pm. Keep on keeping cool at Sandbox with a frozen daiquiri AND a blue hawaiian. The daiquiri’s simple boozy fruity sweetness has a little tang, while the blue hawaiian’s coconut cuts the pineapple’s tartness. Enjoy them on the patio, or check your rum-fueled skeeball skills inside.

THE PARLOR

And finally, for a traditional summertime cooling off, take a seat in The Parlor’s big courtyard. Whatever summer game is going on – baseball, soccer, and football creeps in already – with an ice cold beer, it’s is one of the season’s great delights. Plenty of screens and beer in abundance from Bud Light to IPAs. Get a pitcher or a tower, get yourself comfy, and settle in until that sweet SoCal breeze hits.
