Posers offers  – pun intended – an imposing selection of British fashions, from clothing to shoes to accessories. Trendy U.K. brand names on offer include Dr. Martens, Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, and George Cox among many others.

Co-owner Yaffa Sakhai says Fred Perry is one of her most popular brands. “People come to us for a full line of clothing, like polo shirts, pants, and shoes. We have many customers who are looking for a specific brand and they want everything that brand has, and we have it. We’re known for the brands we carry, and we’ve been offering them here on Melrose Avenue for 27 years,” she relates. The shop opened in 1990.

Sakhai originally chose to carry English brands for a personal reason. “My husband used to wear these clothing lines. When we went to Europe, these were the lines we were drawn to and most interested to buy.”

Moving to California in 1979, Sakhai decided to open her own business. “I knew immediately what I wanted to carry — English brands. It was a personal choice, and there was nowhere to get them here. Thankfully, we’re very successful,” she laughs. “The fashion lines appealed to many other people.”

In fact, Sakhai carries over 700 styles of English clothing, in 3 stores all located on Melrose.

Posers has the largest number of Fred Perry and Dr. Marten clothing and accessory items worldwide, from shoes to wallets and purses. When it comes to Docs, the store carries everything from the classic 8-Eye to limited collections created with Agyness Deyn, and Vegan Docs. And to keep shoes looking new, Sakhai stocks plenty of replacement laces and Balsam, Dr. Martens’ blend of coconut oil, lanolin, and beeswax designed to clean and protect leather, keeping it soft and supple.

Of course, the shop carries other trendy footwear brands too, including George Cox crepe sole creepers made in Wellingborough, England, as well as the UK’s Underground, New Rock, Gripfast, and the hip San Diego-based company T.U.K.

But the shop isn’t just all about shoes. Ben Sherman is best known for its Gingham shirt line, and also offers polos, sweaters, suits, and bags as well as footwear. Merc suits, crafted from their original mod pattern, and Merc dress shirts, are also stocked at Posers. And outerwear like the MA-1 Bomber jacket created by Alpha Industries is also available. The ultra-cool MA-1 is sturdy and beautifully designed from the multiple-flap pockets to the durable knit collar, cuffs, and waistband. Following designs implemented in the 1960s, they’re reversible to bright orange, too.

Posers also moves beyond U.K. fashion trends. Tripp NYC began in the East Village in the 1980s, and Posers is a strong LA outpost of the brand, which frequently appears on the pages of Vogue and Vice as well as on rock n’ roll stages. Funk Plus is another brand that originated in New York, featuring high quality leather products with an edge, like bondage belts and collars.

With well-curated clothing lines that would be difficult to find in any other single store on this side of the Atlantic, Posers is the real deal for mod styles, hip looks, and, as in-store shoppers attest, “Doc Martens as far as the eye can see” and “the coolest collection of British fashion in town.”

But it’s not only the stellar British clothing and footwear lines Sakhai carries that’s made the store successful for so many years. “We’re one of the original clothing shops on the street for a reason,” she says. “Along with the complete clothing lines we carry, it’s really our personal customer service that brings people back again and again.”

Posers is located at: 7417 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046
